What is Oolong Tea?
A traditional Chinese/ Taiwanese tea, made from the leaves of the Camellia Sinensis plant. Oolong tea is partially fermented, black tea is fully fermented, and green tea is unfermented. So this tea combines the freshness of green tea with the depth of black tea in perfect balance.
Oolong tea undergoes a unique process which involves withering the leaves under strong sunshine for fermentation before curling and twisting the lightly oxidised leaves. As it is made using partially oxidised leaves, its character varies from fragrant and floral to rich and intense.
Oolong is a very delicious, multi-flavoured tea with various health benefits. Oolong is used to sharpen thinking skills and improve mental alertness. It is also used to help to prevent cancer, tooth decay, osteoporosis and heart disease and to treat obesity, diabetes, hardening of the arteries, high cholesterol and skin allergies such as eczema and to boost the immune system.
Oolong tea is a great introduction to leaf tea for the novice and Abbey Tea would like to offer you two of their favourites from China, Iron Goddess and Golden Osmanthus and two fine imperial Oolongs from Taiwan, Alishan and Dong Ding. We think that once you have tried these sweet easy drinking teas with their elegant aromas you will be hooked.
